Dean Sickler

Dean Sickler is the owner and founder (1986) of Dundean Studios and teaches at all levels in faux finishing, specialty finishes and venetian plaster instructions. He has been in the painting and decorating business for over 30 years, having executed faux finish and art commissions from Beverly Hills to Fifth Ave. He has also been active in conservation and restoration work. Major commissions have included rooms in the Vizcaya Museum in Miami, The Craftsman House in Old Charleston, The Willow House in Morristown and the Thomas Edison mansion in S. Orange, NJ,
Dean was a painting contractor in Los Angeles for 4 years after he earned his journeyman's card in painting in 1979. He apprenticed for two years from 1983-85 with Grace Darby, one of the original Masters from the Isabel O'Neil Studio in Dallas. Classes were also taken at the Day Studio in San Francisco in 1986-87. In Miami, Dean worked under the guidance of Emilio Cianfoni, Master Conservator, and is responsible for many architectural and antique restorations at the Vizcaya Museum in Miami. Dean earned a B.A degree in Art and Art History from the University of Toronto and Sheridan College. (1994)
In addition to being the core instructor at Dundean Studios, his teaching credentials include courses and workshops in faux finishes and decorative arts at the University of Toronto - Sheridan Art College, The Isabel O'Neil Studio in New York, courses at the SALI Convention, The Faux Expo, scenic art instruction for high school art programs, guest lectures on faux arts and art history, and the teaching of hundreds of workshops around the country as guest lecturer on art history, color theory, design and the faux arts. Dean is the immediate-past President of the Mid-Atlantic Faux and Decorative Artisan chapter of the PDCA, is an alternate on the NJ District PDCA Board, and is a board member of the Decorative Alliance Forum. He is currently a Board Member of the Professional Decorative Painters Association (PDPA). Dean is also a member of the International Decorative Painters Salon. His recent work displayed at the International Salon in Utrecht was selected to remain on display at the Escher Museum in the Hague.
